Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition (Genesis) Playthrough – NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Capcom’s 1993 versus-fighting game for the Sega Genesis, Street Fighter II’: Special Champion Edition.

Played through with Ken on the hardest difficulty level. I didn’t lose any rounds and got the best ending.

It’s pretty insane how close graphically this hits the feel of the arcade. Unless you put it side-by-side with the SNES or the TG16 versions, it’s not often that lack of on-screen colors sticks out (which is certainly not the case in many Genesis games ported from more capable platforms). Otherwise, it’s just as good as any of the other versions. Just make sure that you have the 6-button pad. It’s not really worth the effort otherwise.

Just like lethal enforcers, companies put much more effort into the genesis versions of games than their snes counterparts.

Was I the only one who thought Vega was a girl growing up
Boy was I shocked when I played Street Fighter 4, I played this game when I was 3 up until I was 10 then the Genesis broke and I stopped playing until I bought SF4 and now SF5

14-year-old me is still pissed that Sega players got to use the bosses and I couldn’t with the SNES version.

I honestly thought this was the best console port of S.F. II, considering it had the opening cutscene missing from the other ports (besides the PC one), both looked, and sounded much closer to the arcade version than the S.N.E.S. game (save for the lame sound effects, and badly garbled voices), with better gameplay as well. Capcom sure did S.F. II on the Genesis well back then for certain without a doubt.

This was such a big deal when this came out on the Genesis. I remember saving my money to get this. It didn’t leave the Genesis for a very long time. Good times.

The day this game graced my Mega Drive was the most important day of its life…. But for me, it was Tuesday. (and Monday, Wednesday, and every day for about five years!)

  39. يوتيوب الوعد قدام on March 19, 2021 at 11:45 pm

    nice graphic sega

  40. Jake Bello on March 19, 2021 at 11:46 pm

This is on the Sega Genesis Mini!

  41. Robin West on March 19, 2021 at 11:47 pm

The special Sega 6-button controller released exclusively for the game was the best controller for playing SF2 ever made. None of that crappy SNES crosshair – this controller had a pivoted D-pad that made rolling out those hadokens as precise and fluid as possible. Exceptional design.

  42. Rodzilla97 on March 19, 2021 at 11:51 pm

snes SF2 Turbo is better. better graphics, no black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, better music, and better voice samples

genesis has the intro though, that’s awesome

  43. Adesh Mahabir on March 19, 2021 at 11:52 pm

I remember playing this on my Sega Genesis with the three button controller and I mastered it.

    Classic

  46. MrZillas on March 19, 2021 at 11:53 pm

I played the shit out of it in the 90s. Before school, after school, and in school I could only think of it. Buying this and 2 6-button-controllers made me poor lol.

  47. Super Tune on March 19, 2021 at 11:53 pm

the voices sound worse than the master system version

  48. adamaze on March 19, 2021 at 11:56 pm

I’m pretty sure I uttered my first ever obscenity while trying to beat M. Bison.

  50. VB3 on March 19, 2021 at 11:58 pm

All around excellent port that was quite surprising at the time because no one expected it to ever land on the Genesis, but the graphics and animation were all top notch. The only real flaw was the low quality voices.
