    YOU USE THE WORD SIMPLE WOULD IT NOT BE SIMPLER TO JUST USE TWO BATTS AND A CURRENT LIMITING RESISTOR ? STILL AN INTERESTING CIRCUIT.

    Hi friends, I just would like to understand the role of the toroid in this circuit (in other applications I use them is to clean up stray RF signals from coming back to a given transmitter or to make HF transformers, aka baluns, ununs). Thanks !

    This is called a "Joule thief" It uses back emf and the switching action of the transistor to pump out short pulses of voltage higher than the output of the battery. Frequencies above 1kz, and even 50kHz are possible.

    Stupid Project, leds are directly powered on the battery, so the choke and the transoistor are useless. 1.5v is enough to power leds

    can u explain why two terminals of the transformer are soldered together and combined and linked to Vcc 1.5 V and the other two terminals are free , this is an unusual usage of transformer , can u explain its significance and usage ?
