Sega Genesis Accessories Overview

Many years ago I made a video showcasing Sega Genesis Accessories. The Sega Genesis has many unique add ons that you could purchase and use with the console. While many of them are unnecessary, several of them are collectible now. For those who do not have a six button controller, that would be my first recommendation to go with your Sega Genesis.

I remember my uncle had the TurboPad when I was a kid, and he’d always make me use it. Cheating bastard. lol

Hey John I love your videos, great information and straight to the point. Do you have an instagram account?

Excellent video, +John Hancock. Love your collections. Just one thing: I think it would be better if you show the actual accessory out of the box, so we can look at it with more detail. Here you have one more subscriber. Greetings from Mexico. 🙂

The unofficial 6 button controllers were made cheaply and fell apart easily.

    Nice collection!
I’ve been enjoying your videos. I found my way here through Metal Jesus Rocks. I like your style. Very informative, and I like that you have many rare and unusual things.
Also, gotta show some Washington pride. I’m up in Thurston county. I had some friends who lived in Kelso, so we’d spend a lot of time in Cowlitz, too.
Anyway, love the videos. I wish I would’ve found them sooner. Happy gaming!

I want to get that baseball bat just for the novelty of it.

You have one of my favorite new channels. Great work John. I’d suggest more lighting and recording in HD. Your content is so great that it deserves the treatment.

Great Analysis on some cool and wacky Genesis accesories. I am thirteen and just starting to collect for the genesis. How many games are in the library? If I can’t find every game boxed should I try to get the box seperately? Also, How many games would you consider hard to find, expensive, or both? Thanks!

Hey John. My brother, Patrick, is visiting me here in Colorado and he said he sold you my old Genesis collection a long while back. Cool!!! Glad some of my old games are in your Genesis collection. Did you get that power base converter from my brother? Great that some of my old stuff is in good hands.

  15. SPac316 on December 1, 2020 at 9:46 pm

I got a Menacer recently. Glad to finally get one.
I first played Master System games on the Power Base converter when a family friend brought his Genesis over, many years ago.
    The Activator was Pre-Kinect days!

  16. budz2355 on December 1, 2020 at 9:49 pm

its an octagon, not a hexagon

  17. allan fulton on December 1, 2020 at 9:49 pm

I had that activator as a kid and it really sucked.

  18. Average GamerYT on December 1, 2020 at 9:50 pm

Was there ever a converter for the sega game gear games so that you could play the game gear games on your original Genesis system??

  19. allan fulton on December 1, 2020 at 9:50 pm

I definitely need a six button controller. I have three Genesis consoles and not one of them came with a six button controller. I’d love to get that six button arcade stick though.

Does anyone remember which Mega Drive game had the developer photos on the end credits?

  23. Gamer_Shrimp 88 on December 1, 2020 at 9:53 pm

I love the Sega Genesis!! IT is so close to my heart as this was a huge part of my childhood!!! It grew up with it as this was my very first home console and my first experience to gaming aside from the arcades! 😀

  24. MrDwayne79 on December 1, 2020 at 9:56 pm

Ive always wanted the activator as a kid. But Ive heard its a piece of crap. lol

  25. OOOHBILLY on December 1, 2020 at 9:57 pm

  26. deadseveredhead on December 1, 2020 at 9:59 pm

    GREAT video John!!!

I knew someone that had the Sega channel, and it was weird.
Sega’s only successful console was the Genesis.. I think that fact pretty much sums up the nature of Sega products.
marketing coolness, radness and badness or bad ass -ness can only take you so far.
I think their true problem was things like the Sega CD and 32x. that kind of lack of quality really put off consumers.

You need to get the Sega Modem. It is a japanese cartridge with a modem built inside which was used to conect the genesis to a sega server in japan.

of course is long dead but still you need to go get it because I say so

Needing some help here. I have a Sega Genesis case/stand made of plastic that also has a hard plastic top that sits down over the system, and game storage in the back. I’m having a hard time finding information on this thing. Any leads will be appreciated.

Thanks JH for another great video

  33. Dmitry Podvigalkin on December 1, 2020 at 10:19 pm

in Russia they were selling it as a "Sega mega drive II", and that was the default controller

  34. Riz2336 on December 1, 2020 at 10:19 pm

Your right man the 6 button controller is a must, I beat Street Fighter 2 on the Genesis using that. Seems like a lot of junk but the power base converter seems pretty worthwhile.

  35. Monkey Abattoir on December 1, 2020 at 10:21 pm

has anyone on record actually beat eternal champions with the activator??

  36. Average GamerYT on December 1, 2020 at 10:22 pm

Which games supported the team player?  The only one I remember using it for was Gauntlet.

  37. John Stevens on December 1, 2020 at 10:24 pm

Favorite Genesis accessory has to be the official rf wireless 6 button controller. They are a tad pricey now but a must have if you can find one. Range of them is a lot better than most rf controllers.

Didn’t see the adapter that makes the Genesis a good console.

  39. herohunter81 on December 1, 2020 at 10:32 pm

I remember the turbo touch 360! Junk lol
