ROM Hacks for the PlayStation – How to Apply PS1 Patches, Translations, and More!

Time to delve into the world of ROM hacks on this channel for the first time! I started looking into enhancements, patches, and translations for original PlayStation games and was pleasantly surprised over what I found! However I noticed several different formats of these patches, different methods, as well as different expected game formats. Due to all of this I wanted to make an in-depth guide explaining these ROM hacks a bit further as well as how to apply them.

This will show you how to easily backup your original PlayStation discs to a proper format, what to look out for on your patch downloads, and how to apply them. PPF and XDelta patches are covered in this guide, as well as one example of a custom patcher. Due to custom patchers being… Well, custom in nature. This example is not a one-size-fits-all. Any custom patchers you encounter should have documentation included which you will need to follow specific to that patch.

This video has been made with Fair Use in mind and has been created as an educational piece of media.

I don’t know if you already said it in the video, but do I need an "NTSC-J" console to play the translated version of Innocent Sin?

  9. Katsuya the Fuuk on April 16, 2021 at 12:10 am

Funny that you made this, cuz I’m actually playing through Persona 2 Innocent Sin translated right now

  10. Chapman Baxter on April 16, 2021 at 12:11 am

Something for the community to ponder – can we just start calling the ‘fanslastions’ instead of ‘fan translations’?

Imo persona 2 innocent sin has the best story in the entire persona series. I really wish future persona games feature more adult characters but I think that’s really unlikely

Can you make a video on how to play the patched games on a playstation please?

  22. MrAnimeMilitary on April 16, 2021 at 12:30 am

I will definitely look into this. I have the 2 Disc Japanese Edition of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, I also have the single disc International edition as well. I am aware that there is now an available full English fan translation of it. I look forward to playing it fully translated into English one day.

I remember renting ps1 game console from blockbuster with few games until I bought it much later when I was older good times

  24. peter mokran on April 16, 2021 at 12:34 am

why dont people upload patched version is beyond me? Why waste my time on something what the person who patched/translated the game did already. I know 4 legal reasons and stuff but most of these games are over 20 years old and practically abandonware.

I know this video is from 11 months ago and you may not notice but if you do then please can you help with this current situation

I have Persona 2 innocent sin and i patched the bin file and all that but now i wish to get the file onto the disc so i tried writing it onto the disc with imgburn then i later discovered that the disc was write protected so i began trying to figure out how to turn off write protection and i found many articles and videos on it that had methods that didn’t work at all so if there is something i am doing wrong then please help me out since i love this game and it is easily my favorite persona game

Anyway sorry for writing a long paragraph about this but just wanna say that i have been using a lot of your tutorials for many modding related things and they have helped out a lot

  27. James McCloud on April 16, 2021 at 12:39 am

YES! Thank you so much! I’ve been looking everywhere on how to do this!

  28. ErroneousClique on April 16, 2021 at 12:40 am

I like HashTab to check file hashes. It is free for personal use and integrates right into Explorer. Checking hashes is as simple as right clicking on the file you want a hash for, and click Properties then select the hashes tab in the File Properties dialog box and click the get hash button – shows many different hashes. Awesome little piece of software I have used on Windows for years. XD
