I think whether it comes to fruition or not really depends on whether they are thinking about the Japanese domestic market or the worldwide market. Carrying around a pocket wifi as a hotspot in Japan is far more common, and so improving the switch’s wifi is most likely to way to go there. Allowing it to leverage those hotspot speeds as best as it can, rather than going for a sim connection itself. For the worldwide market having some kind of 4G or 5G connection makes more sense, but then you have all the issues with the cost of the parts and of the ongoing data plan as well. There are many more hurdles involved with trying to give it some kind of direct data connection rather than just improving the wifi. As someone overseeing it, I’d be trying to get the switch peak wifi rate from around the 75mbit I get with mine to the 300mbit I’ve managed to get from pocket wifi in Japan or faster for future proofing. That would have less headaches involved, and would still service a significant proportion of the switch’s user base.

Nintendo has the worst online servers.. this is a terrible idea

  3. Xinless Vice on December 25, 2020 at 10:24 pm

Switch is trying to be the Vita really hard

  4. Christopher Moreira on December 25, 2020 at 10:25 pm

The next switch was just announced lol

  5. DARKON219 on December 25, 2020 at 10:25 pm

Adding 5g module to Switch is a waste and overcomplicating while you can do the same and even better with using your (5G) phone as hotspot.

  6. Ronald Hernández on December 25, 2020 at 10:26 pm

I gotta say, I play Warframe with my cellphone hotspot and works just fine (even better that wifi depending where is it placed), so I see this as a really possiblething to do.

Is it a good thing, that’s another topic..

  7. DissTrackted GameCat on December 25, 2020 at 10:28 pm

If you allow this shit in your home, you’re a fucking moron.

  8. PhazonBlaxor on December 25, 2020 at 10:32 pm

I wouldn’t buy 5G model even if it came out, because I can just tether a connection from my phone. I’ve been doing this since 3G and Nintendo DS days.

  9. Matt DANJA Turner on December 25, 2020 at 10:33 pm

We don’t need cancer. No thanks, 5G.

  10. HCIbn on December 25, 2020 at 10:33 pm

I’m glad my PlayStation 4 Pro is 5G

  15. Clint Freudbacher on December 25, 2020 at 10:37 pm

Well I think that this is possibly my last generation of gaming Consoles. I’ve had every Nintendo since N64. I am born in 95’ so it was really the tail end of that system. The new generations just don’t seem to be anything I want to be involved in yet. This goes for all of the different consoles. I’m not ready for the next generation nor do I want it.

  16. coocola on December 25, 2020 at 10:37 pm

Why is nobody talking about 802.11ac / WiFi6 and what does any of it have to do with the auto-renew subscription option that everyone forgot to turn off after realizing their mistake of buying into the Nintendo Shit Online service.

  17. Paul Romero on December 25, 2020 at 10:37 pm

HTC thunderbolt only lasting one hour I don’t know what you’re talking about that thing lasted me all day. Oh wait a minute oh wait a minute I forgot the three extra extended batteries is what got me through the day I remember now and it took three extended batteries to make it LOL

    Nintendo:Did I hear 5G?

  19. ThetaX55 on December 25, 2020 at 10:40 pm

Meh I always wanted just have a phone and use it’s wifi for my gaming systems, computer or whatever other thing uses networking. I use my buddy’s phones wifi all the time cuz he has alot of gig’s. I don’t have to much. I see rogers, the service provider in my city has unlimited data which is awesome, kinda costly, maybe i can get a good deal in the years to come. I see 10mbs, 20mbs and 50mbs speeds from $75 to over $100. of course you gotta pay for the phone plan after that.

  20. Jonathan Johnson on December 25, 2020 at 10:40 pm

5g danger. Don’t be a dummy look up the danger.

  21. Jared Armbruster on December 25, 2020 at 10:41 pm

5G on the Switch would be dope, but I feel like they would need to support all carriers with such a thing. Currently AT&T and Verizon are the only two carriers offering 5G, with T-Mobile and Sprint to merge and create their own 5G network. 5G definitely has potential to be absolutely amazing, but after looking a coverage for 5G, it’s quite disappointing. I live in the greater Cincinnati tri-state area, and seemingly none of the major cities in those areas are getting 5G.

  22. James Reardon on December 25, 2020 at 10:43 pm

Dude I just bought a switch I’m gonna be pissed if they release a hardware revision

  23. Nyo Nyoron on December 25, 2020 at 10:44 pm

5G is good futureproofing for game streaming services.

  24. Ray Caballero on December 25, 2020 at 10:44 pm

I really like the Outro song I think you should stick with that one instead

  25. Lance Parmar on December 25, 2020 at 10:51 pm

I could see them utilizing 5g to partially stream games with larger file sizes like they did for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in Japan. Having 5g would probably enable them to offer games like that a little bit more easily, but yeah. The Vita’s flop with a data plan doesn’t make it seem that promising.

  26. nathan mead on December 25, 2020 at 10:51 pm

If they make one that uses 4G LTE and has 2 nano sim card slots (one on each side) I’d buy it

  27. Sayf Taleb on December 25, 2020 at 10:53 pm

man you have all the information,, I dont need to research myself. everything related, you presented in your videos!!! I should learn from you

  28. Christopher Schlacta on December 25, 2020 at 10:53 pm

Nintendo could easily keep costs down by restricting 5g access to e-shop access and downloads and gameplay as part of the base subscription, but requiring an extra fee to access streaming and multimedia services. Just set up the default plan to pass your connection through a nintendo cloud proxy endpoint that whitelists your access and proxies direct-connect connections, and let you go proxy-free or perhaps unrestricted-whitelist if you pay the extra fee.

  29. Chloe Mcholoe on December 25, 2020 at 10:54 pm

No dedicated servers no proper online and a garage wifi chip. I think they need to work on the basics first….

  30. Eduardo Perez on December 25, 2020 at 10:55 pm

    That Megaman X4 music thou💪

  31. Lyra on December 25, 2020 at 10:55 pm

I dont think its such a bad idea as long as its still a console and not a phone. 5G on a switch like console would be neat if the price is right

  32. Brandon Judkins Plays Games on December 25, 2020 at 10:55 pm

Studies have shown 5G to be very harmful to you.

  33. Stephen O'Brien on December 25, 2020 at 10:58 pm

Nintendo proving once again that they are on board with the NWO.

    Love the ending music

  35. KinnArchimedes on December 25, 2020 at 10:59 pm

If I was a big shareholder, I’d ask them why they aren’t doing Netflix style VC with emulators. It’s easy money. And would greatly increase benefits to consumers, perceived value would go through the roof.

  36. Ziffer777 on December 25, 2020 at 11:00 pm

I don’t think the music fits very well with the video…

  37. billyhatcher643 on December 25, 2020 at 11:01 pm

  39. Shiro-Luna on December 25, 2020 at 11:02 pm

5G? That will kill us all…

  40. TheSnoopyclone on December 25, 2020 at 11:05 pm

You can make your phone into a hotspot running through 5g, so what would be the point of 5g?

  41. Peacho O on December 25, 2020 at 11:10 pm

Now everyone will play smash with cancer

  42. Michael Mayers on December 25, 2020 at 11:11 pm

Nitendo knows not to follow in Vita steps plus people got phones not paying for nitendo service

  43. Jack Baznia on December 25, 2020 at 11:11 pm

No. If they do this it will slowly die just like the vita did when they did AT&T only internet plan.

  44. Jonathan Johnson on December 25, 2020 at 11:11 pm

No no no noooo 5g what so ever. 5g is deadly and killer.

I’m in NY wifi pratically everywhere

  48. Shion Sinx on December 25, 2020 at 11:17 pm

Without infraestructure support there is really no reason to rush it out. "Hey here is a new Switch iwth 5G support, but there’s a 99% of chance that you wont be able to use it in the next decade unless you live on these few cities".

  49. MonadoJoJo Zerø on December 25, 2020 at 11:19 pm

It’s insane that Nintendo is considering it. I can’t imagine how good the online must be with 5G

  50. Derek W on December 25, 2020 at 11:20 pm

Imagine a phone that plays switch cartridges, fits in your pocket, and has controllers built into the sides.

Suddenly, Nintendo gets a lot of Android and Apple’s money, and developers can actually start making real games for mobile because there are real controllers built in. If it’s as powerful as a switch, all the better for game development!
