Mega Drive Longplay [168] Vectorman

http;//www.longplays.org

Played by MadMatty

One of the best platform/shooters on the genesis. This came out towards the end of the consoles life and utilises all the tricks to show that it can keep up snes.

Not so apparant in the video, but on a CRT screen all those black lines merge with the nearest color to produce another colour to produce more colours on screen then the native palette allows. This allows some nice transparancy effects that genesis cant do in hardware and pre-rendered 3d imagery similar to Donkey Kong Country….yeah I went there.

The game itself is fairly linier, but at the same time offeres some hidden path that can help or hinder, but at least leads to a tv pickup. Alot of the time I feel the weapon pick up are not in optimal places so often run out before meeting a gang of badies to kill.

I almost forgot to mention the music. The game shines here and shows what can be achieved when the sound artist knows how to utilise the hardware. Fm Synth at its finnest 😉

I did die a couple of times due to running out of time. This is no speedrun as I tried to show a few hidden areas. I think I may have missed on energy ball too.

I hope to see the Pinnacle of what md is capable of in Vectorman 2 as one of the last games released on the system.

This sounds trippy after being used to the non 50Hz adjusted PAL version. Also I swear the plane boss behaves differently here than in the PAL version and I remember it playing differently in emulators too (harder like in the video).

I forgot how amazing this soundtrack was…. especially on level 2

Back when video games had standards and the programmers actually gave a fucking shit about making the games good this is an example of it they don’t do that anymore nowadays when they make video games

The graphics are amazing for the Mega Drive and showed its capabilities but it was already too late.

I first played this when it’s featured on ‘Sonic Gems Collection’ (U.S.) back in summer 2008.
A few weeks later, i unlocked the cheats for it.

When this game out, there was a *win cash prize* bonus. If you beat the game, it would reveal if you won the cash. I beat it, no cash…but boy was it a great game. Especially the Antarctica looking map. 👊🏼

I remembered that i cried full with anger because of that train part

  41. Elliott Savva on May 4, 2021 at 1:26 am

Something that annoys me is that in Terraport the clouds speed up and slow down in the wrong directions when you run. When you run to the right they should go left faster but instead they slow down. Now thank me for ruining the game for you. Did anyone else notice this?

  48. perdedoraonline on May 4, 2021 at 1:39 am

I remember as a kid how every level was basically a time crunch 💯

  49. Luke 18:13 on May 4, 2021 at 1:40 am

One last thing, doesn’t the warhead boss look eerily similar to the demogorgon(not the spelling I’m sure) from stranger things?

  50. Jesse J. Cruz on May 4, 2021 at 1:40 am

I liked this game as a kid but after watching people cry over how hard battletoads & some other games were ironically thats probably what made them WAY more memorable & challenging fun Vs this is like more, pass it 1st try, kiddie fun
