Making a Sega Megadrive Controller Adapter for Atari 7800! Full Build & Games Testing!

This video was kindly sponsored by https://www.PCBWay.com!

The Atari 7800 was a great machine, but was cursed with some terrible controllers. In this easy to follow video we will be building the “Atari 7800 Mega Drive Adapter” by Tor-Eirik Bakke Lunde.

You can buy this board, along with a whole array of other talented designer’s boards at PCBWay – https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Atari_7800_Mega_Drive_adapter.html and PCBWay give 10% of the cost to the author of the project!

Looks like a great little adapter! Alternatively, rather than soldering the 7800 connector on at an angle you could use a joystick extension cable.

Strangely, I hadn’t even seen this video before now. About time it showed up in the recommendations – excellent soldering Stuff 🙂

Apparently, Curt Vendell, the Man behind development of the 7800 Expansion Module, passed away 2 months ago. I don’t know if the module is finished.

Cool. Will it work with the Spectrum on a Kempston interface ?

  14. Greg Jarvis on April 15, 2021 at 12:45 am

It would look better and protect components with a shell

I can’t believe you named a bear after me and ate it. Did I taste good?

Wouldn’t it be better to solder the Atari one on straight and use one of these… https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MIAMRY2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zMqNFbYYE0BKZ

The 7800 is making a real push – new homebrew titles coming in the next 6-12 months (most better than any release title) and multiple SD carts for devs and users coming. Check out AtariAge for all the info!!
