I don’t think every appliance can operate safe with step down transformer as I have seen manual instructions that come with the appliance stating that it is not designed to work outside the voltage range even if Transformers are used. The best way is to use local products as you pretty much get everything you need everywhere.

Despite using a step-down transformer sourced from a local electrical shop, my device broke 🙁
I took my device to the electrical store, showed them the voltage specifications and all and bought my step-down transformer and as soon as my came home and plugged my device in to start using it, it started to fume from the power socket/switchboard emitting heavy black smoke leaving the device broken. It was so scary and thank god that was not a major accident. I have tried getting another for a couple of times but it was more or less the same and none really worked (4 transformers were a huge failure!). I have 5-6 appliances with me now but never dared to use them or try getting a step-down transformer for them since then. I have seen similar things happen with my friends and their families too! Do you think they really work well and are safe? It would be of great help to me if you could share some links where I can purchase them online.

What is the price for transformer?

  12. Sanjoy Das on May 10, 2021 at 12:53 am

Does not help at all cause the main issue is the difference in the frequency in us the frequency is 60 hz, whereas in India it’s 50 hz , so just step down does not work…for sensitive stuff like amplifiers or other sensitive high wattage electronics, may be non sensitive ones like mixi will work though you are slowly damaging your equipment, kindly as the guy beside you if he is really an expert-err if there are step down voltage plus 60 hz to 50 hz frequency converter available in india

Can I use electronic fan regulator for a 21W 120V LED lamp which I bought in US.

  20. Murali Krishna Valluri on May 10, 2021 at 1:09 am

I think these days majority of the appliances are rated 110-240 volts, so a simple US to India socket converter would work.

I don’t know why too much drama for a simple information. People do anything to increase subscriptions on a YouTube video…this is one of those.
