How to connect your SEGA Genesis – Model 1, using an RCA or Composite AV cable

This video will show you how to connect or hook-up your original SEGA Genesis – Model 1 to any CRT, Tube, HDTV or Flat Screen TV, using RCA or Composite Cables. (Links Below).

You can get the cables you need from here:
Power Supply:

SEGA Genesis 1, SEGA CD 1 & 2, Master System – Power Supply (1602)

RCA AV Cable:

SEGA Genesis 1, Master System – AV Cable RCA

The Original Genesis does not output sound in Stereo from the back AV OUT port. So many RCA AV cables will only have 1 audio plug (Red, or White) not both. In this case you should plug the audio cable (regardless of color) into the White port on your TV, as most TVs will recognize you only have 1 sound cable plugged in (mono) and still output the sound from both left and right speakers, which is better than having it only come out of one side of the TV.

This video will also show you have to get true stereo sound from the original Genesis by using the headphone jack in the front.

It’s a shame that they didn’t make a normal AV cable. I have plenty of AV cables but I don’t have the SEGA Genesis cable.
Can I make a cable myself?

The genesis looks nicer than the sega mega drive

Thank you for making this video 😀 I just got sonic 2 (NFR version) for my birthday and when I saw that you were using the same console and the same type of copy of sonic 2 I was like "It can’t be…"

Thanks for this, where would you recommend buying that type of AV cord? Thanks.

  12. 74NSZ95 on May 13, 2021 at 1:40 am

Why does that AV cord only have 5 pins? The AV port on the Genesis can accept a total of 8. Is there a better AV cord you can buy that utilizes all 8 pins and perhaps get you better picture and/or stereo sound?

So the genesis comes with the white and yellow cable? Is it ok when the red port is empty?

Mine inputs black and white coloring and the audio seems fine but the color isn’t
