Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Genesis) Playthrough – NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Sega’s 1989 arcade port for the Sega Genesis, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts.

Played on the professional difficulty level, both loops and the best ending are shown.

The sequel to Ghosts ‘n Goblins is a big step up – it looks and sounds great and is much, much easier than it’s predecessor. The Genesis port is quite good – not as good as the Supergrafx port, mind you, but the game is here completely intact, and looks and sounds damn good for a 1989 game.

I’m serious about the difficulty. It’s hard to believe this game actually sits between Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts in the series for how comparatively not difficult it is. I wouldn’t call it easy, but I never swore at it once, and I seem to remember way back I beat it in under a week (unlike SGnG, which as a kid took me years). The second round is even easier. Getting the magic shooting weapon at the beginning really allows you to fly through the game virtually unopposed.

Wow. Whoever is playing this is awesome.

  3. SuicidalNapk1n on December 4, 2019 at 5:08 am

Pretty sure this run used invincibility. There are several times between 8 and 10 minutes where they were definitively hit but did not lose their armor. I’m not fooled.

  4. Gary Beltz on December 4, 2019 at 5:10 am

I played this on my Sega Channel subscription game would frustrate me at times I will admit I used the invincibility cheat.

Loved this game, great to watch it played through with ease. I can see you’re on the second playthrough cause level 2 looks like someone forgot to wash the blue goo off the TV-.

  31. MaleOrderBride on December 4, 2019 at 5:33 am

The monsters in this game were so creative and scary! A slug with maggots crawling out of it’s skin?! Statues with slimy tongues?! It was so cool for a 9yr-old like me to play back in the day!

  36. Hype Man Dan on December 4, 2019 at 5:42 am

I played this in my ps2 all the time

  37. Christopher Mata on December 4, 2019 at 5:42 am

To be honest the graphics are not like the arcade and not better than super ghouls and ghosts on the Super Nintendo version but great sound and music and still holds up to this day

  38. johneygd on December 4, 2019 at 5:49 am

I remember this game from 1992.

  39. Paul C on December 4, 2019 at 5:49 am

They seriously need to make a live action g&g movie; since Castlevania went down the toilet anyway 😡

  42. Sascha Feldmann on December 4, 2019 at 5:51 am

Wow! This is part of my childhood! 🙂 I love the music! Its fantastic and gives me backflashes… 🙂

  43. Wolfdragon92584 on December 4, 2019 at 5:56 am

Why is it that so many Capcom games sound better on Genesis than in arcades? I know they had similar sound hardware, but the Gen sound just seems to have more emotion, even if it’s not technically as advanced. This is especially evident in Strider.

  44. flash 22 on December 4, 2019 at 5:57 am

This sucks compared to Super Ghouls n Ghosts on SNES. Even the music blows

  45. MegaVideoGameChannel on December 4, 2019 at 5:58 am

im definitively adding the super version when i get PocketGo

  46. OGLOS18 on December 4, 2019 at 5:58 am

Damn didn’t realize you had to beat the game twice got stuck on the last level I would of turned that shit off for sure haha

  47. Zepher Tensho on December 4, 2019 at 5:59 am

Watching you NOT shoot up/down on the cloud boss was frustrating lol
And then you gave up the torch (on the one level where it’s good!) for the shittest weapon in the game, the ax. I can’t even watch after this lol.

  48. MonsterStorm on December 4, 2019 at 6:00 am

Just bought on eBay for $7. Score

  49. XtraConfidence on December 4, 2019 at 6:01 am

One of the best games ever, and very difficult.. They don’t make games like this anymore, it’s all about graphics now and not gameplay, fuck graphics, I prefer oldschool graphics like this.. Good games back in the day, even early 2000’s like RuneScape, etc was godly.

  50. Retrogamer Dell on December 4, 2019 at 6:01 am

When this came out, Sega Genesis was on top. Great Capcom arcade conversions like this and Strider that the Nes couldn’t match. At least that was my opinion.
