Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Genesis) Playthrough – NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Sega’s 1989 arcade port for the Sega Genesis, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts.

Played on the professional difficulty level, both loops and the best ending are shown.

The sequel to Ghosts ‘n Goblins is a big step up – it looks and sounds great and is much, much easier than it’s predecessor. The Genesis port is quite good – not as good as the Supergrafx port, mind you, but the game is here completely intact, and looks and sounds damn good for a 1989 game.

I’m serious about the difficulty. It’s hard to believe this game actually sits between Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts in the series for how comparatively not difficult it is. I wouldn’t call it easy, but I never swore at it once, and I seem to remember way back I beat it in under a week (unlike SGnG, which as a kid took me years). The second round is even easier. Getting the magic shooting weapon at the beginning really allows you to fly through the game virtually unopposed.

who is at 16:00 arthur is talking to? And if you play this game don’t lose the weapon the goddess gives you, or you’ll have to go through the game a THIRD time, or as many times as it takes for you to have it just before you fight Loki.

  43. Pawel M on March 5, 2021 at 11:15 pm

nostalgia right here, that golden sword in the beginning is the worst lol

  44. Gee Em on March 5, 2021 at 11:17 pm

Epic music. I used to live this game as a kid. Getting to Loki and kicking his butt was always a great joy.

  45. kzbxvz on March 5, 2021 at 11:17 pm

The first boss must have been the biggest pixelated monster at the time 1988 but also the easiest to defeat ever 🙂

  46. JaKobe OG on March 5, 2021 at 11:17 pm

I didn’t even play this as a child yet I get nostalgia from it

  47. Brett Riggin on March 5, 2021 at 11:18 pm

Love the music on level 3!

  48. The True Bro on March 5, 2021 at 11:19 pm

Weird, I first tried the SNES "version" of this, and it infuriated me to no end because of its slowmo and overall frustrating gameplay.

Years later I could try the Genesis version, thinking it would be even worse (because of my rage for the after mentioned version and my bias towards Sega back then)… and when I realized it, I was already in the last level and had a helluva time playing it. Still tough as nails but definitely more playable and fair, and that made it better in my eyes. And weird thing is, I realized you could shoot upward and downward merely by accident at the worm like boss.

My favorite weapon is the axe <3 followed by the sword.

Quick question: during the second playthrough, can the goddess appear in any chest in any stage as long as you have the golden armor?

  49. Marko 79 on March 5, 2021 at 11:19 pm

better than many games I bought for 70€

  50. PogueSquadron on March 5, 2021 at 11:19 pm

What is the easiest way to play this on modern consoles?
