Emulating the Atari ST – LaunchBox Tutorials

In this tutorial I show you how to get the Atari ST Home Computer up and running in LaunchBox! The emulator, Hatari, does a lot more than just play games too. You can of course play your games, but also emulate the Atari ST like it were a real PC in front of you, load up software and programs and play around with a by gone era. The freely available and re-created TOS (BIOS) called EmuTOS isn’t perfect, but they are free and can run quite a bit of software. This was also more easy to get set up than I originally had assumed as well.

Currently going through and setting up every system I’ve ever owned in Launchbox. This was by far the easiest computer emulator to set up. Nice video.

You’ve been so helpful Brad on my mega quest this month to emulate EVERYTHING. Learned a ton myself with Retroarch, but needed lot of help I eventually got from you w the CDi through MESS in Launch and Atari 5200 w same deal. Hatari in Retroarch wasn’t working for me so I did the new stand alone, 2.0 which is version up from one you recorded this vid with. Thanks so much for all your help, just one small queston. That virtual hard drive file hdimage.80 seems to be missing from this version, do you think they inlcuded a virtual drive w Hatari 2.0? I really just want to be able to save my ST games with it so that would be helpful. Thinking of downloading the older 1.9 version just to extract the hdimage.80 from there, it shouldn’t cause problem right? Thanks for any input!

hello again…making big progress with my new build. having a big headache getting future pinball to jump straight to table. i have ported the tables over but when they launch it just takes me to the emulator in which i have to manually launch the table from there. is there any way i can get it to jump straight to table. thanks again for all your great work!

Hey, Brad! I find Hatari to be a bit cumbersome, and not really a good opponent to the Steem Engine emulator. have you tried it, and what do you think of the two compared to eachother? I actually made a video on how to set up Steem, and posted it in the video section on the Launchbox forums. Obviously not up to the standards of your videos, haha! *bows down*

checking attempt to hide console window at startup/shutdown in the emulator window cleared that problem up you had at the end of the video for me.

I’ve been waiting now for years since this came out. PLEASE can someone help the community get Amiga games working. This is the main System for many people, and although there are ways to do this 1 at a time, or using WHDLOAD which does not support savestates (therefore useless) What we need is a basic way to get the Amigca collection / multiple games into launchbox in one go. I appreciate that there are lots of things to fix in Launchbox, but it’s a bit frustrating when paying supporters purchase this front end, with tutorials on everything else but the best for some, Amiga, Atari ST etc. They clearly DO work with Launchbox, but setting them all up individually is totally impossible. At least it would take months… 🙁 Getting all systems at least a "Working" method of importing games should be the highest priority of Launchbox devs, since this is what its for. Things like presentation, shiney transitions etc are uselss if the menu isn’t working. I’m sorry i hope you can feel my frustration here. I wake up every day (geeking out haha) checking the launchbox forums, trying to find a logical way to import the entire Amiga collection, but there is no real solution out there.

WHDLoad is not the answer because it doesn’t use save states

    Thankyou very much.

Hi All, this works fine for me but i can´t exit with the Xbox 360 Controller. :C is it possible to make a Video with Atari ST in Retroarch? I put the tos.img in the Retroarch systemfolder but the Games doesn´t start.

Just a random idea for launchbox, looking at the "filler"-boxart. How about you create an imagefile of an empty case (like DVD case) and every system has its own icon (and the Launchbox-Icon) on the case. Hope you unterstand, what I mean… XD
This would be a really nice. 🙂

I use the Steem SSE emulator (not with LaunchBox) and you are able to fast forward through the loading. Does LaunchBox work with Steem SSE?
