Atari VCS 10 PC Games Tested – Is it any good?

In this video, we test out 10 PC games on the Atari VCS and also run some benchmarks like Geekbench PC mark And 3dmark. This is not a console and never should have been referred to as such, The is a low-end AMD Ryzen powered Mini PC and in my option should have been marketed that way. Powered by an AMD Ryzen 1606G APU with built-in Radeon Vega 3 graphics and it comes with either 4GB or 8 Gb of rm so basically it’s just an AMD mini PC!
In this video, I test out some PC, Steam, Epic games on the VCS while running Windows 10. So how does it perform? IS it a good Mini PC? Let’s find out.

A game console that only does 720p at low settings. Why did they even bother? That’s worse than XBox Series S. It’s even worse than Nintendo Switch. If you already have a decent PC, or a recent console, you have no reason to buy this. Buy more games instead. You could even build your own game console using a SFF business PC with a Core i5 and low profile video card that plays games better than this for the same money or less.

  2. zerosub on May 10, 2021 at 12:51 am

    The series s is better.

  3. Jayman 64 on May 10, 2021 at 12:52 am

    Does it play kasumi ninja

  4. Wolfendoom on May 10, 2021 at 12:54 am

    Why would anyone buy this?

  5. Brayden Brown on May 10, 2021 at 12:56 am

It’s amazing that when upgraded, it plays overwatch perfectly
I have a couple questions, can you upgrade it any further?
And with the upgrades can it play cyberpunk 2077 any better, another person tried that and it was playing terribly
Also I hope Atari make another variation of the VCS with the rainbow like the Atari 2600 jr had it

Awesome video I will say 🙂

  6. Jake Camp on May 10, 2021 at 1:00 am

    Very nice VCS!

  7. Stooo Marshall on May 10, 2021 at 1:03 am

Did Atari not claim this would compete with the next gen?
It runs Skyrim worse than PS3…

  8. Kekw Kekw on May 10, 2021 at 1:03 am

This is the biggest waste of money I’ve ever seen. The EXACT same price can get you way better. Will you have the stupid OS they provide? No. But they lied about the games anyways. Atari vault or whatever costs. You don’t get all the games they promised unless you pay.

  9. Cody Ross on May 10, 2021 at 1:03 am

For the whole performance aspect Windows 10 in general is chunky so it is possible if you had SteamOS running from Ubuntu it would see a little more performance out of certain games and Steam has been giving more support to Linux in the past couple of years as are developers so it’s possible to run some of these games at slightly higher specs given some tweaks

  10. Ryan Curtis on May 10, 2021 at 1:04 am

If they ever make another model they should have the built in gpu and a thunderbolt port for eGPU

So this is an Mini PC with an embedded Athlon 200 GE with Vega 3?
It would be nice if you would have included the numbers/ results from your Athlon 200GE, Ryzen 2200/2400 G or even Ryzen 3000 G APUs since you already benchmarked them in the past.
For me a good alternative would be a Asrock A300 with a Ryzen 2200G, especially if you get it somewhere used.
And of course some Cyberpunk 2077 would have been fun. In 720p low and maybe in 4k via Stadia game streaming. For me it should be standard on all machines your testing these days till Witcher 4 comes out. 👊

Glad that this turned out better than it seemed at first, but I still don’t see buying this over a Switch. Maybe for emulators.

  13. Marcel Meyer on May 10, 2021 at 1:14 am

I mean you can get an Xbox Series S at that price and play games with RTX On.

  14. dstns on May 10, 2021 at 1:15 am

I don’t think you have enough Daedric Arrows

See the problem Atari should have stuck to the basics Intellvison Amico got them beat all the way

  17. Juhis M on May 10, 2021 at 1:22 am

    Wait, what, this isn’t a khoun-sole…

  18. DigitalYojimbo on May 10, 2021 at 1:24 am

I wonder if you can pull the password from the bios using a testclip.

  19. stephen giacobozzi on May 10, 2021 at 1:24 am

will it work better then Raspberry Pi 4

  20. JohnSams on May 10, 2021 at 1:26 am

You keep saying this is not a console , its a mini PC.. well guess what it is a console. Its got the form factor of a console so it is a console. What qualifies the Atari VCS as a pc ? The x86 cpu ? the internal ssd support ? The ps5 and xbox also are pc, they are just locked so you cant install other OS . Imagine if you could install Win10 on PS5, with 16gb of ram and a pretty nice APU, the xbox would be completely useless since the ps5 would be able to play all Sony exclusives AND microsoft exclusives.

  21. Mujtaba Rafid Ibrahim on May 10, 2021 at 1:27 am

Yeah $300 for a PC that’s 2x worse than my 3 year old low end desktop, no thanks. What a shitbox.

  22. the silent gamer on god on May 10, 2021 at 1:27 am

How do you see how much fps you have

  23. clayton0127 on May 10, 2021 at 1:28 am

honestly, for 400 dollars, you could get something better.

  24. Zickcermacity on May 10, 2021 at 1:28 am

All I wanna know is if it plays the games orignally on the 2600 FROM THE LATE 1970S the way I remember. Like Space Invaders, Pole Position, Pac Man, Asteroids, etc.

  25. puml on May 10, 2021 at 1:28 am

i don’t care i just want it lol

  26. Ryan Swanson on May 10, 2021 at 1:30 am

I wonder what would happen if you did everything you did here, but took out the built-in eMMC and just ran the whole thing from the SSD you inserted alone.

  27. SGA on May 10, 2021 at 1:30 am

Great informative video! I was hoping you’d have Warzone in there. But I understand because you covered a lot.

  28. Ken Mason on May 10, 2021 at 1:30 am

All that money, time and broken promises just to give us an out-dated mini PC? Yup. It’s Atari. Because Muricuh. And Atari make games. And it’s Atari. I’m Super happy and I will be getting one when I become rich and famous someday. Maybe more Atari games will become available.

  29. Bandit78 on May 10, 2021 at 1:30 am

" This is just a mini PC, not a console " … Uh ya, so are the Xbox series and PS5. You just can’t run windows on them which means they are just neutered mini PCs. This little Atari is awesome.

  30. Tommaso Seneci on May 10, 2021 at 1:33 am

what’s the point of buying this when at the same price you can get an Asus PN50?

  31. Kendu KungfuPanda on May 10, 2021 at 1:35 am

Forget specs for any machine capable of running Call of Duty Modern warfare with out major glitches or call of duty Cold War no laughing matter even sometimes a game like Animals simulator or People simulator and city building simulator or anything Simulator related kill is a factor but not killing is a non factor too

  32. Steel on May 10, 2021 at 1:36 am

Curious on how retroarch runs on this.
Raspberry Pis are okay at it, but they struggle in systems like N64 and Dreamcast, and can’t really run vulkan shaders well at all. This in theory should be able to with ease.

  33. KiaKK on May 10, 2021 at 1:36 am

Atari VCS + HD TV (720p) is the new budget king gaming PC setup!!! Especially at this crazy period.

  34. zuhair shahid on May 10, 2021 at 1:38 am

Amd dual core Ryzen so powerfull play game year 2020
I Wonder what kind of technology AMD used

  35. Lemmy Kilmister on May 10, 2021 at 1:39 am

I definitely agree with you on mini-PC idea.

  36. SirSethery on May 10, 2021 at 1:40 am

Honestly, the best option is the $250 model with 4GB since it’s easily upgradable. Throwing in 4GB RAM and a 256GB M.2 drive (looks like it needs to be SATA-based) for under $300 total isn’t too bad.
It’s basically what I’ve been saying for a year or two, they’ve just marketed it terribly. It’s not a bad system, it’s just a bad console.
But honestly, if the 11th Gen Intel NUCs can come anywhere close to this thing’s price, then this is a bit pointless.

  37. Sloe Bone on May 10, 2021 at 1:40 am

So if you spend a few hundred dollars more you have an underpowered Windows PC that can play old games at low settings? Sign me up!

  38. Mewio on May 10, 2021 at 1:40 am

The controller for this console is very cheap, you can give it a tiny bit of twisting force in either direction and it will press the shoulder buttons lol

  39. ashbartypartytennis on May 10, 2021 at 1:40 am

LOL BIOS is password-protected and you can’t have it??? 🙂

  40. Christopher Pippin on May 10, 2021 at 1:41 am

Hey it’s actually better than i thought

  41. TheLegendofMario on May 10, 2021 at 1:42 am

Would you recommend using a m.2 to PCI-E riser? Might be able to pull a lot of performance, while losing wifi?

  42. This world is ours on May 10, 2021 at 1:44 am

So this is just a netbook minus the lcd and keyboard with a name atari on it 🥱

  43. TQuality Beatz on May 10, 2021 at 1:45 am

    Ok good crap pc emulator

  44. Ivan M on May 10, 2021 at 1:46 am

Can we upgrade it and what controller did you use

  45. Jeff Price on May 10, 2021 at 1:46 am

    can it run bigbox?

  46. Amiga Wolf on May 10, 2021 at 1:47 am

Wow ONLY a dual core CPU, and only 2666MHz memory, you sill cannot run on higher like 3200MHz, the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G does a MUCH better job, but that is a much newer CPU/APU, but yeah a dual core CPU is just silly.

  47. Buster Wise on May 10, 2021 at 1:48 am

    Atari vcs

  48. Zaphod1982 ! on May 10, 2021 at 1:49 am

These all look good and extremely playable – nice vid!

  49. Johan Krüger Haglert on May 10, 2021 at 1:49 am

A crappy PC for running the Atari vault emulation + regular Windows PC games may not be what you actually want. So.. where’s the new Atari games? =P

  50. Εθνοφρουρός Productions on May 10, 2021 at 1:49 am

can you use the VCS controller for most pc games?
