Atari 2600 Longplay [009] Moon Patrol

http://www.longplays.org

Played by: Mad-Matt

Good port of the game which and also a very hard game which usually resulted in the need for new Joysticks. Some of the jump have to be pixel perfectly timed!.

Ive shown both courses. Like all Atari games it will just loop on forever until all your lives are up.

Why do people think this is a good version of Moon Patrol? It Sucks, the Music gets annoying after a few seconds and it has no letters for the check points, just x’s and the end of level song is a truncated version of the real one and the same even on the end of zone Z. Intellivison has a Home Brew that blows this away proving how much better the Intellivision was than the VCS and that it could do Arcade Quality versions of games of it’s time.

I remember playing this as a kid. It looks like the Rover is walking, lol. Also, what popular song was this melody taken from?

I still have my dear old Atari 2600 Junior with my old collection of cartridges, including Moon Patrol.
Pretty advanced game for the 2600 hardware, the cartridge I own sometimes was able to reproduce the music in game, sometimes not.
Never understood why, but with music or not, this one was one of the favourite games for the system along with Solaris (another incredible game for the 2600 hardware), Jungle Hunt, Mario Bros, Midnight Magic (an outstanding flipper game), Defender II, Pole Position, Kangaroo and Dark Chambers.

Bought this cartridge this morning, awesome game. I’m currently discovering the Atari 2600 after i bought one 2 weeks ago. I wish i grew up when these games were at the height of their popularity (i’m 21).

Oh this isn’t the game I thought it was. Anyone remember a game where you fly around and shoot a beam out and kidnap people? Probably a terrible description lol, but

FIRST YOU DID NOT FINISH TO COMPLETE THE GAME, BY WHICH I KNOW THE GAME TO FINISH ONLY WHEN FINDING A CITY. IF YOU HAVE WRONG, YOU CORRELATE. AND THIS VIDEO ENTITLED ‘LONG PLAY’, IF IT WAS HAD A LONGER TIME AND SHOWING TO OTHER LOVERS OR NOT OF THE OLD AND GOOD ATARI (IN ALL VERSIONS). THIS IS MY COMMENT TO THE NEXT.

O M G! This was my favorite game. I MASTERED it! I was so fun and such a challenge.

  45. Jim Robertson on December 29, 2020 at 11:31 pm

That’s the catchiest theme song ever. I used to be able to play it on the piano. I used to play this game a lot back in the 80’s as a kid but I haven’t played it since. I still remember how the tune goes although I haven’t heard it in over 30 years.

Nice gameplay ! very good !

  47. Andy Witmyer on December 29, 2020 at 11:32 pm

I’m pretty sure that farthest I ever got in this game is exactly the same place where this guy also got a gameover hahaha. In any case, I must have been like 4 when I was addicted to this game – it was (and remains) my favorite game on Atari. Sadly, my 4 year old me is probably about 100x more skilled than present day me lolz

Decades later and I just realized you can slow the hell down…

  49. Benny/Benson Sew on December 29, 2020 at 11:32 pm

I often played this with my cousins during childhood.

  50. slightlyevolved on December 29, 2020 at 11:34 pm

This is actually quite the impressive port. Consistent background music, with do drop out w/ sound effects, and no flicker? On a 2600? I’m actually impressed.
